We hope you are enjoying the NVTA eNewsletter! You can now conveniently check the NVTA Court Calendar and recent eNewsletter archives on our website, napatennis.org thanks to the volunteer services of our expert webmaster Gil Lima. Past newsletters are available in the archives. Thanks to Chuck Simonds, the COURT CALENDAR will be available on the website instead of being included in the newsletter. This way you will have the most up to date information.
Members are invited to submit news and photos. Got news about a recent tennis trip? Please share the story with us! The eNewsletter will be published monthly and the deadline for submissions will always be the 25th of the month. For those members who do not use email, a printed copy will also be available at Sportabout.
Changing your email address? You can update your address at the bottom of this newsletter or send me an email with the new info.

Another great event! We are getting spoiled as we just completed another great tournament. We hosted one of the four Adult Districts for the Northern California Section. The other three were held at Broadstone in Folsom, Las Palmas in Sunnyvale and Harbor Bay Club in Alameda. Competing were 32 teams and about 300 players. The weatherman cooperated with three very nice days, just a little hot on Sunday. The most unusual team was the goose pooper scoopers. More than once during the tournament the geese dropped=2 0by the courts.

My thanks to all of you who volunteered, the 6:30 am crew who put out the score tenders, single sticks, tables and chairs, filled the containers with water and ice, setup tents, dumped trash and recycle bins; the daily workers who manned the USTA clothing table, the food table and the Wine auction table. The list of volunteers is shown below.

Thanks also to those who donated wine, food and water to help make the event a financial success. Their names are listed below in the Districts article.

The players were very happy with our site and especially the wonderful shady patio. One comment from the USTA representative was that ours was" one of the best she had attended and the members are so friendly".

Napa Valley College's Fall Schedule of Classes awaits you! Be sure to register this week for the class of your choice. Please note; The catalog was incorrect in listing the second Saturday class (10:30) as beginning. This class and the Thursday night 6:00-7:50 class are designed for advanced students.

If you registered for the Saturday 10:30 AM class and you are not an advanced player, please go to the admin building or online and take care of changing your registration to the 8:30 class for training in the basic fundamentals of tennis. All students can learn in the 8:30-10:20 AM class by working on the basics--even the pro's work on their basics. This helps with muscle memory, safety, and longevity in the sport.=2 0Especially if you have only taken 1 or 2 semesters, please register for the Saturday 8:30 AM.

If you are playing on the 3.5 level (or better) locally or have permission from the instructor, sign up for one of the advanced classes. These classes have the least amount of people in them right now.

If you are "max'd out" on the computer (it says you can't take it anymore due to having taken 4 semesters or more), then come to class the first night and fill out a "special" registration card.

Okay, one of those scenarios fits for you. Looking forward to seeing you in class on the 18th of August.

See you on the courts, Rebecca

Captain Ben Caron Reports-The Fifty Mixed 6.0 completed a winning season with a record of 5-0. If any one needs to reach us October 3, 4 & 5 you can find us at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center in Truckee, playing in the Section Championships. We are hoping to have company; come on 7.0 and 8.0 teams!

Captain Jan Edwards Reports- The NVTA Ladies 3.5 ended a great season by making it to the playoffs against Vacaville. The team was defeated but the team spirit was high and these photos of the Captains party for Jan and Lorraine says it all!

Captain Lorraine Fazzolare reports- The Upvalley Crane Park ladies 3.5 team went to Folsom to compete in districts for the third year in a row. What can we say? We came close but just barely lost all three matches. As always, the team took Bob out for dinner on Saturday night. The restaurant staff still can't figure out how he does it! There will be a lot of celebrating when this team gets together for their end of season party!!

Captain Sheila Chapman Reports- Our 50 mixed 7.0 team has had a great season. 7-1 going into playoffs. Hope all NVTA members can come and support the team on September 6 at 10:00am

Captain Dick Guisto Reports- Our 3.0 men's team finished a great season but lost in the first round playoffs to Vacaville. And the Super Senior 60, 7.0 team is currently in 2nd place and is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

Captain Bob Walsh Reports - Our Super Senior 65 3.0 Team will be competing in the Championships at Harbor Bay Club in Alameda on September 15-17. This is final event for this Northern California only league. And the Super Senior 60 6.0 team is undefeated with two wins and playing on Sunday, August 17th for a chance to go to the Section in October. And also the Combo 6.5 team is off to a good start with a 2 and 0 record.

Co-Captain Fred Facchini Reports- The men's 4.0 team ended a great season going all the way the NVTA districts. Congratulations to all the team members. Fred will be back this season captaining a Senior 4.0 team.

Heard through the Grapevine-Congratulations are in order for NVTA 4.0 member, Deb DeSousa. Her San Francisco 4.0 ladies adult team has made it to SECTIONALS!!!! WOW!!! She won two of her three matches at Napa Districts to lead her team to a 3-0 victory. WELL DONE, DEB!!!

Please email Bev Wilson (address at bottom of page) if you can help!
