meeting 10
We will start the year off with our annual meeting as required by our by-laws. Weather permitting, we will have a short meeting on January 31 at 1:00 with elections for the Board of Director positions followed by tennis and a pot-luck BBQ. The four members whose terms expire are Mark Glickstein, Matt Forbes, Carmen Mackey and Bob Walsh. All but Carmen are running for re-election.

Rick Hanover will be manning the grill and coordinating the pot-luck. Members are asked to bring a dish to share and pot- luck requests are divided into groups based on the initial of your last name:
  • A-H-bring something to BBQ (call Rick at 337-3193 to find out what to bring)
  • I-M-bring a side dish
  • N-S bring drinks
  • T-Z-bring desserts

Matt Forbes will organize the informal round robin.

In case of rain, another location for the meeting will be emailed.

Needed: 3.5 rated Women's singles players for the B-2 team. It is a Women's day league which competes in Napa, Sonoma and Marin counties. Please call Kathy Hess @ 257-1062 or Barbara Pahl @ 938-5689 for further information.
Napa Valley College tennis classes are open for registration for adults of all ages. The schedule is as follows: Mondays/Wednesdays 5:30 pm-6:50 pm (Intermediates), Saturdays 8:30 am-10:20 am (Fundamentals of tennis).

There are now two classes for advanced players--Thursday nights from 6:00-7:50 pm and Saturday mornings from 10:30 am-12:20 pm.

By taking one tennis class at Napa Valley College a player can join the NVC Tennis Club. "Club Night Out" is on Thursday nights from 8-10 pm under the lights! Classes begin Wednesday, January 20th. Be sure and register early. The Napa Valley College tennis program is a good way to tone up your skills and meet new tennis friends. It's also a good way to ensure court time during the busiest hours of the week!

Registration information at: www.napavalley.edu
The courtside trash containers have been difficult to maintain as they simply don't get emptied. They will be removed and ALL players are asked to use the large trash containers located just outside the gates to each bank of courts.

These are YOUR courts...please keep them clean. There is no maintenance or cleaning service.

Thank You!

A gala dinner and awards ceremony Sponsored by USTA Norcal will be held in San Francisco at the beautiful, historic Palace Hotel on January 30th. Rumor has it that two of our long-time, dedicated members have been nominated and will receive awards. It is a great honor to be recognized by the USTA Norcal at this level and we think most members have a clue who these very active and young at heart volunteers might be!!

You guessed right! Our very own super president extra-ordinaire, Bob Walsh and his equally extraordinary side-kick, Al Facchini!!! For all you recent members, we wish you could have seen NVTA just ten years ago before these guys (and many others) stepped up and turned a weed patch into a clubhouse with a patio garden. Bob and Al's energy and enthusiasm raised the bar for our facility, and attracted many new USTA team players, ladies league participants, junior players and tournament participants.

Let's have a big NVTA showing at the gala to honor our guys...Tix are $70 but $35 is tax deductible. Come on everybody, put on your best duds and be there!!

More information is on the USTA Norcal website. (see quick links box)
If you are the last to leave the courts, please make sure the gates are closed and locked. We have found them left open overnight several times recently as well as the clubhouse doors. Vandalism has been a big problem in the past and we have spent a great deal of money on secure fencing and motion lights. PLEASE help keep your courts in good condition by locking up! None of us want extra repair expenses, right?

The NVTA Court Reporter newsletter will be published monthly. Please submit articles and photos to Bev Wilson.

See you on the courts!
