Hey all members! We need your participation! Needed are volunteers for our annual Fourth of July Wine Classic Tournament to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 3-4-5). Please contact Bob Walsh (bobwalsh10@comcast.net) or any board member and tell them that you can help. Some of the things that need doing are wash courts, wash patio furniture, weed around the high school courts, setup and take down each day, and others. Remember, we are an all volunteer organization and we all need to contribute.

Attention Captains! All NVTA team players must be members of NVTA before they can play in any matches. There are new teams starting up, Combo and 50MX. New members will pay a pro-rated $50.00 for July - December 2009.

CLUBHOUSE KITCHEN- The kitchen sink was found again recently with left-over food spoiling and stuck to the counter. PLEASE do not leave any unopened food in the kitchen.

The Vintage High lower tennis court repairs have begun and the courts will be available on or about the 17th.

BALL MACHINE- Those of you who are using the ball machine must return it to the shed where you found it with the cords properly wound and out of the way. It should be in the back center. If it is found again in the middle of the shed with the chords all tangled we may have to store it in the other shed for which there are only a very few keys.

Please contact Bob Walsh if you wish to attend any of the monthly board meetings. bobwalsh10@comcast.net.

Lorraine Fazzolare Reports- The effervescent Bubblicious 3.5 Senior Women's team, captained by Jan Edwards, led us to the Sectionals last month in Walnut Creek. The team won 2-1 the first day, 2-1 the second day and it was all going to come down to the matches on Sunday to determine which team would be heading to Nationals. After two days of tennis and a lot of food and wine after the matches, the team had their hearts set on a trip to Palm Springs. The final match was scheduled for high noon on that Sunday where temperatures rose over the 100 degree mark. The 6 Amigas (Cindi, Pam, Tamara, Cheryl, Terri and Lorraine) headed out to the courts to do battle. In the end, it all came down to 4 little points in a 3rd set super tie-break that kept us from going on to Nationals. Everyone was a little disappointed with the results of the tennis, so deciding to make lemonade, we all focused on our main accomplishments to make it as far as Sectionals (none of us have been this far before) and most importantly, we expanded our circle of friendship with the Sonoma wonder women! And, in the end, that's really what tennis is all about-no huge trophies, no million dollar checks-just fun and friendships!

Captain Gil Lima, 3.0 Adult Men's Team Reports- With only 5 of the 14 matches left to play we are in second place, with strong teams in the top 4 positions. My team consisting of new and existing NVTA members contributing to our success on the courts. Hopefully we can maintain our momentum thru to the playoffs.

Captain Jan Edwards from the ladies 3.5A Adult team reports-As of June 6th, with only three matches to go the Ladies 3.5A team ( aka: Blue Angels) is first place. We 've been having a really fun season so far, and are truly disappointed our section has only 8 total matches. Our next match on 6/13 at 1:00 is against Benicia, the number 2 team, so come on out an CHEER US ON!

Captain Matt Forbes Reports-The NVTA Men's 4.0 team was challenged in the early part of the season with schedule conflicts and having enough players for each match. The good news is that looks to be behind us now and we are in the thick of the race with a 5-3 record and 6 matches remaining. This years players heading up singles for us so far are Jim Vanoli, Scott Butterfield, George Wakerlin, and Oscar Camacho. Doubles consist of Kyle McAhren, Todd Satiago, Mike Smith, Pete Arbios, Owen Irwin, Larry Holman, John Cooney, Bruce Lamoreaux, Pat Eggers, Eric Grigsby, Harold Zagunis, and Matt Forbes, Unfortunately on injured reserved is our co-captain Fred Facchini. The following is the results from our most recent match- We are in the thick of the race with a huge team win on Saturday against Vacaville. We fought hard in singles with both Oscar Camacho and Jim Vanoli, however we came up a little short. Then it was up to all three of our doubles. Owen Irwin and Larry Holman disposed of thier opponents 6-1, 6-4. Then Pete Arbios and Mike Smith handled thier opponents 6-1, 6-4 also. It all came down to the match with Kyle McAhren and Todd Santiago. The first set went to Vacaville 6-1. Then Kyle and Todd kicked in to high gear taking the next two sets 7-5, and the third with a 7-5 win.

Captain Bob Walsh says that his Super Senior 65 team just moved into first place by beating Oakmont 2 - 1. John Blasingame and Al Facchini took first doubles 6-3. 6-0, Clair Palmer and Bob Walsh won number two doubles 7-5. 3-6, 10-5 and Ange Moreno & Jerry Muth lost in a tough number three doubles 7-5, 7-5. Our record is 6-1 with 5 matches to play.

Captain Bob Walsh reports that they had a whirlwind time at the Senior 3.0 Sectionals in Walnut Creek on May 15-17. On Friday we beat a team from Courtside 2-1. On Saturday we beat the team from Pleasant Hill 2-1 and headed for Napa to celebrate being the only undefeated team. While celebrating we got the dread call from the Tournament Director that Ken Civiello had struck out and his match wins were overturned leaving us in a 1-I tie with the other three teams in our flight. So we went back on Sunday and lost 2-1 to Gilroy Tennis Club. It was a hot and miserable day.

Captain Lorraine Fazzolare Reports- The 4.0 Women's team, captained by Lorraine Fazzolare, is having a fun season as we start to build a strong 4.0 team again at NVTA. We may not be winning all of our matches but we are certainly giving our opponents a challenge and having fun along the way. The team welcomes so many new players and NVTA members this year: Gila has returned to the NVTA team (Yeah!!), Cathie Witters, and from Sonoma our new members are: Mary Herring, Tamara Krautkramer, Betsy Niles, Sue Smith, Cheryl Sweeney and Jenny Yamakawa. We even have some new members from San Rafael: Paige Hirschkop and Amy Taylor. Its been great getting to know all the new players!

Did you wonder how the colorful landscaping just magically appears every summer? The flowers were planted by a terrific crew (volunteers of course) who had a great time. Pictured are Mark, Barb and Bruce, Chuck and Fred, Cindi, Lis and Jan, Chuck, Bob & Al. Thanks to all of you.

There is a new cover over the bleachers at court four. The design crew was Fred Facchini and Ben Caron. The paint crew captained by Phil Lampe included Bruce Lamoreaux, Al Facchini, John Blasingame, Clair Palmer and Bob Walsh. The construction crew was struggling with several leaders until Mark Stuart arrived and took control. The construction workers were Fred Facchini, Ben Caron, Bruce Lamoreaux, Al Facchini, Dick Giusto, Chuck Simonds, Mark Glickstein, John Blasingame and Bob Walsh. George Clemons, a tenant of Fred's did a super job of installing the posts and getting the heavy beams up and in place. Enjoy the new cover.
