Over 200 attended a Celebration of Dante
Caron's life last Sunday. A beautiful display
of photos of all aspects of his life and many
of his treasures including tennis gear and
trophies were displayed. The wonderful feast
was enjoyed by so many of his NVTA team
members and friends. Thanks go to Dante's
family, Tillie, Ben and Irene for inviting us
to share in the celebration. Friends Ralph
Mann and Bob Walsh spoke to the crowd about
memories of Dante on the courts. He will be
missed by all
of us.
Dante's family asked to include the
following note- Thank you to all of our NVTA
friends for your calls, cards, condolences
and attendance at the Celebration of Dante
Caron's life. Your support during this time
is very comforting.-Tillie Caron, Irene
DeWeese, Ben Caron and family.

If you missed this party, you missed the
party of the year! Bruce Lamoreaux and
Barbara Pahl generously hosted a pot luck
party at the historic Oak Knoll Ranch
inviting players from Napa and Sonoma to
raise funds for both clubs. With perfect
weather, it was great to
meet new folks and enjoy games under the
beautiful oak trees at the Ranch.
Bruce and Barbara report-we gave NVTA
$1100.00 for the proceeds of the social and
Al Facchini collected around $200+ for the
"Sausage Throw" game. We also collected over
$400 for the SVTA. Bruce and I really
enjoyed having this party at the ranch. The
ranch is a perfect summer location for
parties. The roses from the rose gardens
really set the tables off nicely. It was
great of Bruce's brother to let me chop off
so many roses. Tamara and Harold from Sonoma
provided the Pellegrino waters. Bruce bought
a boat load of bread sticks, I had to give
bags of them away. Matt Forbes supplied CD's
of Italian music and Mark' Stewart's beer was
the hit of the night. Many bottles of
wonderful wine were added by many NVTA and
SVTA members. We are truly blessed with such
a supportive group of people.

What a great season! This group finished the
league undefeated, then at Sections dropped a
tough first round match 1-2, came back to
sweep the second round and take the third and
final round 2-1. The sweep was the
difference and resulted in a championship.
Thank you to the NVTA 7.0 team, also
competing at Sections, and those who ventured
to Truckee for their support.

The 50 mixed senior team captained by Sheila
Chapman returned from Truckee sectionals
without trophies but with lots of good memories!
Sheila reports on the weekend-
No words or pictures
could begin to
describe how proud I am of OUR team.
Everyone made a huge contribution to
get us to sectionals. It
truly was the entire team that got us there.
Team members include-Terri Andrews, Nancy
Baty, Sheila Chapman, Jan Edwards, Lorraine
Fazzolare, Larry Gabel, Dick Guisto, Cindi
Glasier,
Esther Guardado, Sam La Monica, Bruce Lamoreaux,
Larry Lasch, John Liles,
Barbara Pahl,
Rudy Portis, Alex Reynoso, Karen Waite, Ron
Wilske, Bev, Wilson
Friday, was our first match against
Shorebirds. I can't remember
all
the scores from the weekend but what great
tennis!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bruce and Beverly took on the #1 spot and
played a tight match
against a 4.0 woman and a self rated 3.0 who
is easily a very high
3.5.
Rudy and Terri had the match from HELL.
Their opponents looked like
they could hardly walk on the court. Both were
adjusted 3.5 players who had
played at 4.5 and are now back up to 4.0.
Larry and Karen didn't have it any easier.
We lost the first day 0-3
Larry and I had a tough afternoon match and
lost match
point just as the
tournament was stopped for rain.
Rudy and Terri and Bruce and Beverly were
in the
middle of the second set when the match was
stopped.
Finally at 2:00pm
they scheduled all the
matches to play on Sunday.
Saturday night was another wonderful dinner.
Sunday at 11:00 we were finally able to
finish the
match started from Friday.
First win of the day-Rudy and Terri. They
were ready to finish the
match but instead they won by default!
Bruce and Beverly won the
rubber match to give us our first team win
of the weekend.
Cupertino was our next victim. All the
remaining matches played were
an 8 game pro set.
Ron Wilske and Esther " Slowske" started the
#1 match.
Terri and Rudy took out the opponents 6-2 as did
Bruce and Beverly 6-4, 6-2
and
we are all still watching the Ron and Esther
Match which is now at
5-5, 5-6,6-6,7-7 Now for the tiebreak.
I don't remember the scores but the tiebreak
was just as close. What an exciting
match and the team won 3-0.
We missed moving onto the semi final by one
set!
Larry G was the tournament desk's hero as he
helped them dry courts for four hours on
Sunday, He was rewarded with a hat and new bag!!
The good thing about not playing in the semis
was that we could watch our NVTA 6.0 Team
capture the Championship!!
Thank you everyone for all your patience
with the weather. We had an
AWESOME time!!!!!!
Thanks to Doctor Mark, Cheryl and John
Richburg, Terri's Mom (Rita)
and friend Pat, Dick and Pat Guisto,
Karen's husband Bill, Carl,
Barbara and Terri's husband Richard for
being our cheerleaders.
Hope
I didn't miss anyone.
Special THANKS to Bruce and Barbara for
sharing the great wine with
us and to TERRI'S HUSBAND RICHARD not only
for the wine,
but for
finding us some wonderful restaurants for
dinner.

6-TENNIS is a local level junior team tennis
league program supported by the USTA Northern
California Section. These parent and
volunteer run leagues are popping up all over
the section offering an exciting new brand of
local team tennis for beginners and novices.
The league offers three divisions Flight III
catered to novice player's ages 8 to 10 years
old. Flight II, targets beginner -
intermediate players ages 11-12 and Flight 1,
for children 13 to 16 years old. Transitional
equipments such as spinner balls, low
